GOLF AGAINST SABGC

The home and home match play competition against SABGC is scheduled for June 9 at Green Tree Golf Course in Vacaville. Put this on your schedule, work on your game, and get ready to compete against SABGC!!

OPPORTUNITY TO WIN

The drawing giveaway amount at our monthly tournament has reached $150. The drawing is for members only, and you must be present at the tournament to win. Last month at Sunnyvale Perison Knighten’s name was pulled to receive $100. He was not present, so the amount increased to $150. The next drawing will be at the annual tournament at Ridgemark. Good luck to everyone!!!

LET’S CELEBRATE

Happy Birthday to members celebrating in April and May: Esther Wilson 4/3; Lewis Hawkins 4/10; Harold Jones 4/16; John Mann 5/4; Donnie Malone 5/9; George Williams 5/9; Don Hall 5/10; Clyde Marks 5/17; Clarence Bryant 5/22.

FOUR YEAR CELEBRATION

The Stewart Anniversary Invitational will be played at Dairy Creek Golf Course in San Luis Obispo on May 19, 2007. This is the same weekend as the ‘Sisters Across America’ tournament, so the Stewart tournament is being planned for the men that are left ‘home alone’, as well as for other men. This year’s tournament is a celebration of Nesi and Carl’s 4th anniversary. They appreciate all the support they have had in the past, and Carl looks forward to those of you that will be joining him to play and celebrate this year. Nesi of course will be a little sad, away in Florida playing and celebrating with the ladies.

Greetings to My Fellow Spear Members

FORE, FORE, FORE

It is almost that time for the Ridgemark tournament; do you have your game ready? I know a few people that do, Esther Wilson, Phil Brooks and Howard Hawthorne. They are all ready!!

I hope everyone has had some success selling their raffle tickets. This has to be the best deal in town – two dollars for a chance to win a 27 inch flat screen tv. The raffle also supports a great cause, our junior golfers.

Recently Drs. Jim and Virginia Lockhart lost their son Scott. In his honor contributions are being made to junior golf programs. Esther Wilson and Carolyn Nabeta made a substantial contribution to Bill Dicky's Minority Junior Golf Scholarship Program in the name of Scott Lockhart. Sylvester and Johnnie McGuire also made a very nice contribution to Spear Golf Club's Junior Golf Program in the name of Scott. Scott was one of the original junior golfers in Spear, and recently while cleaning out his things the Lockharts found one of his Junior trophies awarded to him by Spear. Scott would have been so appreciative of those who contributed in his memory. If anyone would like to make a contribution now or at anytime in the future we will be pleased to accept it. Jim and Virginia wish to thank all who contributed to these worthy programs.

In my last article I asked for your help in finding more Juniors. We now have five, but we would like to have twenty-five, so please help out!

I hope to see you at Ridgemark!!!!

Until next month... Your President, Harold Jones

Golf Course Management

Playing golf without a plan will generally result in a score which reflects this - a high one! The naughty golfer inside you says 'Don't worry, just hit the ball towards the hole.' The good golfer, on the other hand, has a plan for each shot, each hole and each round. Get used to asking yourself continuously - what is the plan? Your plan will vary according to the course, the weather and many other things. This is golf course management.

If you have a plan for your game, you have a plan for a lower score.

Getting Prepared for the Annual

Our 33rd Annual Tournament is approximately 3 weeks away, and many of you have not sent in your entries as of yet. It is extremely hard to do the planning without knowing how many of you will be playing. If you are going to participate, please let us know by the 7th of April.

Our monthly tournament for May will be held at the San Ramon Golf Course. This is Spear’s first tournament at San Ramon, and I think you will enjoy the location. Last year we did not have our home and home tournament against the Sacramento Golf Club (SABGC), due to the lack of participation. This has always been a fun outing, and the match play tournament is hosted by SABGC this year June 9th at Green Tree Golf Course in Vacaville. More details will follow. Let see if we can get a big turn out and beat up on SABGC.

LET US HEAR FROM YOU REGARDING THE ANNUAL, YOU’RE BEGINNING TO MAKE ME NERVOUS.

Until next month….. Art Jones, Tournament Chair

Sisters Across America

Spear sisters are supporting Sisters Across America with an ad in their souvenir program. The Spear ladies contributed a total of $186 for a full page ad that includes individual photos of all the Spear ladies. Several of the Spear ladies will be attending the tournament in May, and they look forward to attending the ‘Sisters’ first event.
