HISTORY

The Spear Golf Club was organized in 1968, to promote organized golf play for the enjoyment of members and guests. In the early 1970’s the club became a member of Western States Golf Association (WSGA), whose goal is to promote the organized play of golf throughout the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Thirty golf clubs are now members of WSGA. WSGA’s major annual event is a three-day championship tournament, held in June.

Spear Golf Club is one of five clubs in the Northern California Section (Nor-Cal) of WSGA. Nor-Cal Section hosts an annual tournament to raise funds for Junior Golf. Spear Golf Club hosts an annual two-day tournament each year. The proceeds from Spear's Annual Tournament benefit Spear’s Junior Golf program. There are many other golfing events, both locally and out of the area, in which club members may participate.

In 1997 Spear Golf Club joined Northern California Golf Association (NCGA).  Membership in NCGA includes an annual magazine with quarterly supplements that include a list of courses in Northern California. There are opportunities to play in many NCGA conducted tournaments, and qualifying players can compete in the California State Amateur Championship, Associate Club Championship and zone competitions. Members are also entitled to discount play at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach and Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, CA.
